A comparison of shadowing for two buildings (indicated in blue) located at the corner of Montague Road and Merivale Street. The first building has 24 storeys, the second has 90 storeys. For both buildings the shadows are estimated at 9.00 am, midday and 3.00 pm.
Very tall buildings will create overshadowing over many street blocks, as seen in the shadow diagrams below. A single ninety story building in the afternoon and in the morning , in the nominal location shown, will overshadow substantial parts of Kurilpa. A cluster of these tall buildings would overshadow many balconies and apartment dwellings, denying residents sunlight in their homes and on the street.
