How people enjoyed Pikelets on Park(ing) Day: a program of music and poetry, and conversations with neighbours and friends at the Greening West End installation. Our temporary park was located outside Tangara retirement village in Sussex Street and provided a BBQ, seating, plants and shade. “PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.” |

Tangara residents and friends, together with special guests Swara Songbird Choir, Jonathan Sri (poetry) and Cliff Drapar and Pam Bourke (music and song), celebrated the day with the aim of helping people visualise how the tarmac can be broken up and a new, permanent green space, on the peninsula, can be created.
Repurposing road space, to create more green space, is one of the key principles of the award winning Green Space Strategy for West End, Highgate Hill and South Brisbane being developed by local landscape architects John Mongard, Gavin Hardy, Michelle Kirby-Brown and Alvin Brown, working in conjunction with community groups (incl. Kurilpa Futures and WECA). To find our more about Park(ing) Day in Brisbane please visit Brisbane City Council website. |
